Cheerios And Cholesterol

Do you remember when there was no such word as cholesterol? Well, I had never heard of it until my Dad had his first heart by-pass surgery. I think they once called it "hardening of the arteries". I remember at the time they were saying there were some drugs that were coming on the market to help fight cholesterol. But there were none available for my Dad. So in about six years after his first heart surgery, he was scheduled to do it again. My doctor now has me on the pill "Lipitor" which keeps my bad cholesterol under control. But I also eat Cheerios just about every morning. Most of the time, I eat it plain with 2 per cent milk. This summer I have been making it better. Today I had it with white peaches and seedless green grapes. At times I have just fresh blue berries on it. Some mornings just fresh strawberries sliced on it. Other times, just sliced bananas. But the prettiest bowlful had blueberries, bananas, and strawberries! My friend does not know how I can continue to eat Cheerios every morning. I told her I have acquired a taste for them and they are good to me. About the only morning I cheat is on Sunday morning. I allow myself two pieces of bacon, two pieces of toast with grape jelly, and a cup of coffee. What do you eat for breakfast?

I love cheerio's and I think that is the prettiest bowl of them I've ever seen! I'm so boring, just a 'nanner on mine *big smile*
I've always heard if you really want to lower your cholesterol to eat oatmeal every day but I never could stomach that BlEcH!!
I eat cheerios but sometimes a egg sandwich with a 'mater slice on it if I've got 'em.

You do put milk on that cereal, don't you? You know you need your calcium! *grin* I have been on an oatmeal kick lately... I buy the low sugar apple cinnamon flavored ... only 2 points for weight watchers and it is yummy. The little apples in it are such a treat! (I don't think the little packets are as "healthy" as the real deal for oatmeal, but it makes me feel healthy anyway!)

I like oatmeal.. but the kind that takes 15 minutes on the stove. And then I have walnuts in it. I am not a fan of milk, so I usually put yogurt or nothing in it.
Every Sunday morning, my father and I share a breakfast of 2 poached eggs on toast(each), and we split a banana. He too, is on Lipitor and it works well. He eats a small breakfast every morning, other than Sunday. The rest of my family is still in bed when dad and I are chowing down our Sunday Morning feast. I live with a whole house of "no breakfast" eaters. Ugh.. Its my favorite meal!!!!

Thanks for the comment on my blog! I've enjoyed visiting your blog and especially liked the Raggedy Ann/Andy mug that you posted about. I had a Raggedy Ann many years ago as a little girl. My dad gave it to me but somehow over the years she got lost. I think she may have gotten donated to a thrift store in a clean out during my teenage years. Oh how I wish I'd kept her. I'll have to find a replacement for her someday. :o)

I also love cheerio's as does my dog who thinks they're a great treat! I'll have to try them with different fruit though as you make it sound so good.

I'll be back for another visit!

I eat cheerios, too...love them. I generally don't dress them up as well as you do. I also eat oatmeal from time to time. I have crossed bacon off the list although your brother and nephews truly love it.

My brekky is a secret. I am lucky I have never had high cholestrol, & neither has GOM. He loves his porridge, or oatmeal, I guess you call it. I detest milk, & cereals. Toast is ok.

hello! I found your blog via flea-bites. I eat Trader Joe's flax plus pumpkin granola with yogurt and flax seed meal. I have the cholesterol issues too; thus the flax seed. Can't use lipitor so the dr put me on zetia. In cool weather I eat a lot of oatmeal.

I've wondered about many things in my life. Possum sex wasn't one of them although I have considered the porcupine. Very carefully perhaps?

I'll check the link.

Thanks for the comment. I don't even want to think about driver's ed and learner permits just yet.

(I updated that post a little. I was editing when your comment came in). No big deal.

I'm another cheerio's lover, however, my bowl has never looked as good as yours! Did it have milk on it, too?

I'm a member of the Lipitor club too. My breakfast is the same every day--tea and whole grain toast with butter. If I had to think or plan my breakfast, I probably wouldn't eat until noon!

I do eat my cheerios with 2 per cent milk. I just took the picture before I poured the milk. Y'all it was so good and there is no sugar on mine. ~ann

I understand how you can get in a habit of one thing for breakfast. Cheerios and fruit are good. :-)

I eat my Cheerios every morning, too - same reason, bad numbers... The best bowl I ever had was earlier this year when a handful of blueberries had turned purple, a couple of strawberries were finally ripe and I got to them before the birds did, and I had my first raspberries of the season. And it was beautiful as well as delicious. Probably all the better because the berries all came out of my garden. My late husband used to put applesauce on his cereal instead of milk. Said he learned it from his sister who had to eat it like that in the convent. Actually, it is not that bad...

Lately I've been eating instant cheese grits. Today I had pretzels and a Lance Peanut brittle bar. I also love instant brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal. I once ate it almost every day for months and when I went to the Dr for a cholesterol check it had gone down so much the Dr. thought something was wrong with the test. I'm afraid to have it checked now because I'm not eating that oatmeal.
