This was given to me by my SIL. She said it was "Pampas Grass." The plumes on this plant are silky and do not point up as I've seen on other plants that are called pampas grass. Whatever it is, it definitely needs cutting back. When the cooler weather ever gets here, I will have a lot of work to do. The weeds are the only thing surviving in this heat and no rain situation we are in right now. But it will have to wait for a cooler day!!

yes, pampas grass. We had one in our yard when I was growing up in Portland, OR. I love playing with the plumes.
We have a clump of this at the front corner of the house...it was cut back last fall before we moved here so it is not as lush as yours!
:)
I remember growing up and there being an entire row of pampas grass in our backyard, but yu could never touch it because the leaves cut you. But the bunnies always hid in it.... Thanks for the memory....
We had a plant that looked just like this in New Zealand. We always called it Toi Toi, which i understood to be the Maori name for it. the leaves did cut, & I think it has now been declared a pest, as when I was there last year, it was being killed by Councils- not sure why!
