Summer Time

During the months of June and July my grandson came to stay with me. He was selected from a group of students all over the state to work as interns for the summer. He was chosen to work with Tryon Palace in New Bern as their intern. His duties consisted of planning and recommending a transit system that would serve the city. New Bern is planning to build a new museum and the transit system would serve several historical areas including Tryon Palace.

He stayed with me during the week and went home on the weekends. Gas was high, and with all the traveling his "state job " paid for his gas and that's about it. The experience he gained was the most rewarding.

At the end of July all the interns were invited to the Governor's Mansion for a reception. This last picture is of that event. The picture is small but the tallest person on the back row on the right is my grandson. The summer flew by. By next summer he plans to be married.

Today when I went to the mailbox I got a wonderful surprise. A package from Kara http://innocentcharmschats.blogspot.com/ that I had won as a runner-up in her give-away. Inside is a beautiful bracelet. It was packaged so pretty in a little pink drawstring bag. She also sent a note inside a beautiful pop-up card. I even loved the envelope. It has stamps with pictures of the Queen on it. Thanks Kara!! The bracelet you made is lovely. I will enjoy wearing it. You do wonderful work. Thank you! Thank you!!

Wonderful Rain

Last night we had a storm and we got some rain. I saw a few trees broken up when I went into town this morning. Around here everything is fine. Just wanted to show you that we got over an inch of rain. Our weather men said this rain was part of Hurricane Erin that came in at Texas last week and has worked its way off our coast last night. God is Good!! I'm so thankful !! Today the temperture is pleasant. Hope your day is Good as well.

Grass

This was given to me by my SIL. She said it was "Pampas Grass." The plumes on this plant are silky and do not point up as I've seen on other plants that are called pampas grass. Whatever it is, it definitely needs cutting back. When the cooler weather ever gets here, I will have a lot of work to do. The weeds are the only thing surviving in this heat and no rain situation we are in right now. But it will have to wait for a cooler day!!

And One For Dad

This little basket was made by Little PenPen for her dad. It has little birdhouses and birds stamped on it and in one on the blocks she has written "Curts Goat Farm." The handle to this basket is a wire formed into a goat. We keep a pad and pencils in this one hanging on our back door. So if you come to visit and we are not home, please be sure to leave us a note. Thanks!

My Favorite Basket

This is my very favorite basket. Penny made this for me. I love the way she painted the front of it. Sunflowers have always been her favorite flower.

Blogger is not "playing fair" today. There is another post that has more baskets. After you view them hop over to "little PenPen's blog" and tell her what beautiful baskets she has made for her mom.
Love N Hugs!

Tisket A Tasket A Green and Yellow Basket

Today, I will show you some baskets, my daughter, Little PenPen, has given me. Most of these she made herself. This first one, though, I think she told me her friend , Betty, made for me. They were doing the basket making together.

This one Penny made for me. I use it to store all my stuff I need in the bathroom. I keep it under the counter. When we have guests, I just take this basket with me to the other bathroom.

This one has a green color woven through it. I use it for storage too. I was surprised to find some Raggedys and some wooden croquet balls in here ??

This one was made by Penny for me. I love the angel on it. I keep it on one corner of the entertainment center. It holds a plant on one side and other goodies on the other side. It sits in front of papers and envelopes I need to file, but in the mean time are hidden from view in back of this basket.

This one has a wooden handle like you might see on a bucket. This one is one of my favorites. She drew apples on it and has the Bible Verse "A word fittly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of of silver." Proverbs 25:11 As you can see it holds my eye glasses. I buy reading glasses from the dollar store and have them all over the house. LOL

Fall's coming? OR Drought Conditions?

It is beginning to look brown around here!

Am I The Only One?

Really, Am I the only one who gets online just for a few minutes to check out the blogs and winds up staying longer than I planned? I always start with my own blog to see if anyone has commented me. Then I see someone has. I quickly click on that person and run over to comment them. As soon as I have the comment typed and start to submit I SEE I DIDN'T SIGN IN AGAIN !!Do others do this too? Am I the only one?

So then I back track back to my blog to sign in and start all over again. Oh, sometimes I copy and save it until I get back to Meggie's blog and then I can just paste it in again. You would think that this old dog could learn a few more tricks!!

One of the tricks I'm using is to put an A in front of some blogs like Penny's so I can keep her near the top of my list of favorites.

Oh my, I'm going to post this to see if the old dog learned anything yet...LOL

The best thing the old dog learned was that Blogger can put the links on your post for you. This was after I went to Google to get some html to try to do it myself. If there is a harder way to do anything, I'll find it!

Cheerios And Cholesterol

Do you remember when there was no such word as cholesterol? Well, I had never heard of it until my Dad had his first heart by-pass surgery. I think they once called it "hardening of the arteries". I remember at the time they were saying there were some drugs that were coming on the market to help fight cholesterol. But there were none available for my Dad. So in about six years after his first heart surgery, he was scheduled to do it again. My doctor now has me on the pill "Lipitor" which keeps my bad cholesterol under control. But I also eat Cheerios just about every morning. Most of the time, I eat it plain with 2 per cent milk. This summer I have been making it better. Today I had it with white peaches and seedless green grapes. At times I have just fresh blue berries on it. Some mornings just fresh strawberries sliced on it. Other times, just sliced bananas. But the prettiest bowlful had blueberries, bananas, and strawberries! My friend does not know how I can continue to eat Cheerios every morning. I told her I have acquired a taste for them and they are good to me. About the only morning I cheat is on Sunday morning. I allow myself two pieces of bacon, two pieces of toast with grape jelly, and a cup of coffee. What do you eat for breakfast?

Moth in the Vine

Yesterday, Molly, told us about Joyce's butterflies on her blog http://jdebreuilsartandquilts.blogspot.com/. They were wonderful! Never saw so many buttlerflys on one flower. Today I found a moth on my Hyacinth Bean Vine. I almost didn't see him/her, except for the lighter colors. I lifted it off with a stick and it flew off into the sun.

Then I thought why not take a full length of the vine so you can see how well it's doing in this heat. Of course, I'm watering it every day since we have had no rain for a spell.

Too Hot

It is so hot here today. One Hundred Degrees plus all that humidity. I must go to the store and get some Pet Chocolate Ice Cream and some cones. It is too hot for anything else.

So many things need repairing around here. Wouldn't you think I could paint this little spot on this birdhouse? Maybe tomorrow.

I Was Looking Out To See ....

....What was looking back at me. I got the camera lens between the blinds and snapped this lizard out side on my lower window. Look closely. You can see what his/hers undersides looks like....LOL These things run freely across my porches. I like to think they are eating all the insects. Mostly, they just make me jump!!

My Sweet Present

My sweet, sweet, granddaughter, April, who works at the Doll Market in Greensboro NC gave me this sweet present when we visited her family at the beach yesterday.

Isn't it so cute. Raggedy Ann is on one side of the mug.
And Raggedy Andy is on the other side. I will probably never drink from it. I will add it to my collection. Thanks so much April. I really, really, love it!!!!

Southern Artist

This painting was done by our artist neighbor to our south. My husband had given him some wood for his fireplace and he repaid us by painting this picture. My husband requested a picture with old barns.
Reading Meggie's Blog yesterday, she was talking about shopping for a new lounge (couch) after the new carpet had been put in. I knew exactly what she was talking about. We "test drove" (her words) every couch in the town 10 miles to the north of us. We visited every store. We didn't like anything. Finally though, I was getting tired and I had made up my mind that if my husband even seemed the least bit interested in anything, I was going to say "yes, yes!" So when he saw this plaid and said what do you think, I quickly said yes even though I wasn't all that crazy about it. Now I'm comfortable with it and surprise... it even goes with the painting! (Please don't tell me it really doesn't ... I'm really not a decorator...LOL)
