Bridge Is Out

Some people are having trouble coming to my house since the bridge is out. My cousin visited my mom and called me saying she didn't know how to get here. I told her to follow the detour signs.

She convinced me to meet her at mom's. She said she had something for me.

The three Raggedy Dolls in front are what she brought me. The pretty doll in back is pretending she doesn't know the rag dolls. (Another friend gave me that doll .. she thought my dolls were ugly) What the pretty doll doesn't know, and my cousin does, is I love Raggedy Ann/Andy Dolls best! Thanks Cuz !!

I Was Tagged

Mary, at Keeping the Light Shining, tagged me. These are the rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Write six random things about yourself.

4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.

5. Let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

My Six Random Things

I decided to post a picture for each fact I told about myself. As many of you know, putting in tobacco was my first job.

This was a hard, dirty job. We worked until the barn was full of tobacco. We handed, tied it on the stick, laid it in a pile. When the primers came to the barns we helped pass the sticks in and they hung it high up in the barn. I learned to work Hard for the money.

My next job was mother. I had three children.

I'm not saying I was that good a mother, but my three children have made my husband and me so proud. I think Mother was my Best job.

And I taught Sunday School.

This was probably one of my most Important jobs. I truly enjoyed the classes I had.

I was a Den Mother for some cub scouts.

This was probably one of the most Fun things I have ever done. This is a group of fine young men now.

My last paying job was in retail. I had jobs in a factory and other retail stores before this one.

This was enjoyable work. Our store was right in the middle of the mall. All outside events happened right in front of our store. We even sponsored some of the models and furnished the clothes for fashion shows. I Learned a lot working with this fine group of people.

Now I'm old. I called myself retired. Only trouble is.. my husband didn't retire. Here is where I would like to be.

Never the less, I must learn to be Content and accept things the way they are. I can look back and see the Hand of GOD throughout my life. HE's never failed me. HIS Mercy is everlasting and HIS Truth endureth forever.

I have decided not to tag anyone. If you would like to do this, I would ask that you let me know so I can read your story. And be sure to go see
Mary and learn more about her.

Suspected Scam

Got This In An Email.

DONATION FOR THE LORD
From: (Name deleted by Ancient One)

PLEASE ENDEAVOUR TO USE IT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD.I am the above name person from (Name deleted by Ancient One). I am married to (Name deleted by Ancient One) who worked with (Name deleted by Ancient One)
in (Country's name deleted by Ancient One) for nine years before he died in the year 2001. We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christians and we lived happilly. Since his death, I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is really against.

When my late husband was alive he secured $15Million (Fifteen Million U.S. Dollars) with financial institution here (Name deleted by Ancient One). Presently, this money is still with the financial institution. Recently, my Doctor told me that from all the test conducted on my health, I am not going to last long, expecially, due to my cancer and stroke. But what disturbs me most now is stroke.

Having known my condition, I decided to donate this fund to churches or Christian individual that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct. I want a church or individual that will use this money to fund churches, Orphanages and Widows. Also, the propagation of the work of God, building and maintaining the house of God through this money, is very important.

The Bible made us to understand that Blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians. I don?t want my husband's hard earned money to be misused by unbelievers, for their own selfish interest and in an ungodly manner. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bossom of the Lord. Exodus 14 VS 14 says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace.

I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health, and because of the presence of my husband's relatives around me sometimes. I don't want them to know about this development, but I know that With God all things are possible.
As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Financial institution in (Name deleted by Ancient One) . I will also give you all information regarding the deposit of this money. I will also issue you a letter of authority that will empower you as the original- beneficiary of this fund. I want you and your church to always pray for me because God work in misterious ways. My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Who ever that wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life.
Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing for a church or christian individual for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I stated herein. Hoping to hear from you soon.
Remain blessed in the name of the Lord.
Yours in Christ,
(Name Deleted by Ancient One)

Scarlet Bean Vines

Remember back in May when I received those wonderful bean seeds from Donna . I planted them behind the old ancient fence.

They grew, but I had to water them. They probably would have done better in a pot.

They reached the top of the fence and are still reaching.

I've had beautiful orange blooms. But no beans yet. It has been pretty dry here. We finally got about an inch of rain yesterday.

Today, as I took these pictures, I noticed another vine (humming bird vine) trying to catch a ride up the scarlet bean vine. Those blooms will be red. Vines are interesting plants.

Eating Good from the Neighborhood

Summer time and the living is easier. Neighbors come bearing gifts. Thanks Johnny for our first new potaoes and new onions. Thanks Lindsey for our first squash and zucchini. Thanks Leo for more onions, plums, potatoes and our first fresh corn. Thanks Dave for more squash and thanks Floyd for more corn. Thanks Inda for the fresh beans and home made chicken salad. Thanks Mickey for the wonderful watermellon.

I'm so thankful that I live in this neighborhood. No one's garden is really beautiful this year because of the drought. But what we have we share. The tomatoes and cukes were picked from our garden and I already know who is going to share these. Each one will get some ripe and not so ripe tomatoes. Some for now and some to for later. God is so good to us!!

Good Weekend!

Holly and Kenny's wedding shower was this weekend.

Will and Ashley came to stay with me Saturday night and went to church with us on Sunday. We enjoyed watching their wedding DVD and seeing their honeymoon pictures. We really enjoyed having them with us.

Then on Sunday afternoon we were all at the shower. April and Penny were there and we got to see April's bride's maid dress. Holly's wedding will be so pretty. We got to see family and friends we hadn't seen in a while. Holly and Kenny got many very nice gifts.

Jess and Matt were there. They are planning their own wedding. Jess has been in so many weddings this year, I'm sure she will have lots of ideas. All my grandchildren are growing up!

Saturday Photo Hunt = What IS That ??

Yankee Hall in Pactolas, NC.

Pactolas was identified as a community even before the county of Pitt was formed. It was already christened in 1810 by a Greek schoolteacher in memory of a river in Asia Minor. Yankee Hall, a river plantation developed by a New England trader who was building boats there in 1816, was associated with this locale.

My granddaughter, Holly, is planning her wedding reception here in September.

What Do You Think?

Do you know this flower? If you are from North Carolina I'm sure you know what this is.

This was the first paying job I ever had. I started working in tobacco when I was about 10 years old. I handed the leaf off a "tobacco truck" to another person who tied it onto the stick. Those sticks of tobacco were put into a large tobacco barn and heat was used to cure the tobacco to the pretty golden color needed for cigarettes.

This is the tobacco in a field across from my home. This morning it was full of flowers. Tonight half the flowers have been removed by migrant laborers. They would have finished but it started to rain.

Do you remember when the government bought all the tobacco farmer's allotments? Lots of farmers are still receiving money from the buyout. Still, big tobacco farmers are planting all they can. Do you think this is right?

Bits and Pieces

Just some bits and pieces of the weekend.

On Saturday we were invited to go along with my first son's teenage church group on an excursion. He was taking them to the place he works and was doing a tour of the plant. We (my husband and I) had not yet taken this tour so we decided to go. Taking pictures was not allowed, so here is a website of the company. Hatteras Yachts is where my son works. We enjoyed the tour and especially getting to go aboard one of the finished products. WOW ! Some people know how to live! (and may I add, the yacht we toured is so much more lovely than the one they have pictured on their website)

The church group was going on to a ball game. We decided 3 hours in the stands would be too hard on my husband's back, so we headed home.

Remember a few posts back when I was counting up how many mouths we were feeding around here? Well, we discovered two neighborhood dogs were joining my husband's dog for supper late at night. No wonder we were buying so much dog food.

Then when my husband went out to gather the eggs on Saturday afternoon, he found a large snake in the nest. That snake had eaten every egg but one. Another mouth we didn't know we were feeding. Husband came in to get the gun and he got rid of that mouth really quick!!

Today, Sunday, we had Pastor Appreciation Day. This year will be our Pastor's 20th year with us. We tried to show him how much we love him and his family. I hope he liked his surprise.

Hope you all had a nice weekend!!

Car Dogs

This was a funny sight to us today. There was a large dog in the front seat and a large dog in the back.

You may have to click on the picture to appreciate this. The one in front looked as if he were the driver. You can be sure no one bothered this car while the owners were inside eating.

The Surfs Topsail NC

This is where we spent the 4th. Our second son invited us for the day. This is the view from his deck.

This is the view with my feet in the water!

Most of my time was in the shade of the canopy watching the action on the beach.

We all had a very good time!

Another Route

The road into town, that we always take, will be closed. A bridge is being replaced.

Preparations are under way. Middle of next week, we will have to take a detour.

It will be November before we will be able to travel our old familiar road. That seems like a long time.

(pictures taken through windshield while driving ;)
