So yesterday we celebrated my birthday. My husband asked me what I wanted and I said I wanted to go to the Outer Banks. We had a great time playing in
Beach Girl's neck of the woods. We went exploring. We visited Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as well as the Lighthouse on Bodie Island. But the most fun was exploring an old abandoned building across the dunes at the end of the bridge. There were a lot of people fishing along side the bridge and on the rocks.
It was fenced in all around and had "no trespassing" signs up. So we just took pictures.
This is the other side. In a few more years it will probably be covered completely with sand.
We walked all the way down to the ocean. We had the place to ourselves. Then we had the long walk back. And I loved every minute of it!!

What a nice way to celebrate your birthday, having the whole beach to yourself. Best wishes for the coming year.

Happy Birthday! I love the photos of the abandoned building. Oh, I'd love to own it and fix it up!
Let me chime in with belated birthday wishes - just exploring the beach area sounded like a great day to me. I usually prefer the beach in the winter anyway. ec
In case you're interested, that is the old Oregon Inlet Lifesaving Station. There's been talk of fixing it up for years, but obviously nothing has been done at this point. I recently purchased a book with pictures of the lifesaving stations along the NC coast and there's a picture of that building with no sand piled around it - looks like a totally different building. But, since the sound is shifting each year, its no wonder the sand gathers around the building :)

Well, a belated Happy Birthday to you... Sorry I missed it, but I have been out of the loop again for a week. Maybe life will level out soon.
We spent our honeymoon (#2 & I)on OBX, especially Ocracoke, gee, that would have been 20 years ago. Really loved it there tho it is not that much different from here... but it was different for him - he was from Mich.
Loved your pictures, don't remember seeing the old station but probably did.
I wonder if my impatiens would ever come back up or if it is just too cold here...
I love the Outer Banks. It is so beautiful. Glad you got to go for your birthday.
Ann,
What a nice birthday! It's been so long since I've been to the NC beaches (sigh). I bet the abandoned house would have been fun to explore - but what's to do about all of the sand over-taking it? Whenever I'm at the beach I like to scout for seashells with natural little holes at the top, so that I can make my grand-girls necklaces.
Catching up again. Belated birthday wishes. The pictures are lovely.
On your later post, words aren't necessary. Some things speak for themselves.
A belated birthday wish. Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday and great weather on the beach.
