Another Landmark Soon To Be Gone

Click on the pictures to see the interesting details of this house.

Walked around this old house not too far from home that is slated to be destroyed. From the front...

Still from the front.

Left front porch.
Right Side Porch.

Left side of house.
Still left side
Still left side.. back porch
Right side back section is a porch that has been closed in.
And this is the Right side of the house with a side porch. It appears to have been remodeled and added on several times. I have passed this house many times while it was occupied and wished I knew the people well enough to have gone in. Now that it is empty and soon to be destroyed, I decided I'd better go look!!

Why is it being destroyed? To make way for a new house? Because there is too much structural damage? I hope that if there are any salvagable pieces that someone will go in and get them.

What a shame that this beautiful old house was let get into the shape. And another shame it is being destroyed. Like willow, I am interested in knowing why it is to be demolished. :-( I love old houses, as you can tell from looking at mine. This reminds me a little of the house I was raised in.

Where is this house? It looks familiar. About the houses with no kitchen windows... I wasn't talking about yours. It was my rental house before buying this one and my last home in the mountains. I love my kitchen windows... makes dishwashing a whole lot better!

Cool house --wish it could have been saved.

Willow, the man buying this place has three houses in line to be destroyed when the new road comes through. The exit off ramp will take out all his houses. He is in the process of buying the old house. He is going to move his three houses onto this property and he says the old house has to go!

Penny, this house is across the road from the old house your brother lived in close to Summeral's Sausage Place.

Mary, the woman that lived here, had to go to a nursing home for a while before she died. Sometimes these things cannot be helped. Change is constant. I love old houses, barns, stores, history... I like to get pictures so I can remember when...

What a shame we can't save these old places.

What's going up in its place? A parking lot or more little boxes made of ticky-tacky?

Hi, my friend. Please stop by my blog and pick up a little surprise I've left for you there.

Have a wonderful day.

Such a pity. How nice you got photos before it was gone though.

I LOVE this old house. I can only imagine the living that was done in those rooms ...if walls could only talk! It's a shame that something this beautiful couldn't be preserved.
When I was a child, we lived in a home that was moved from it's original location because a freeway went through. Every time I see it, I'm happy they chose to move it instead of destroy it.
It's so good you took pictures - at least it will be preserved in that way.

What a beautiful old house, Ann! Look at the double porches on the front and the tin roof! I'd bet there is a well on the property too.

I disapprove of the house being destroyed - concrete and highways - progress - uuugghhh.

But Willow is right, if pieces are salvagable, perhaps the new owner will let someone have them/buy them for preservation purposes - like doors (especially the ones with old skeleton key locks), cabinets, or fireplace mantels, even outside wood trim. I envision an old claw feet bath tub, I wonder if it has one??....

OH NO!!! You know how I hate to have old buildings destroyed! Oh, just look at that 'gingerbread' trim on the roof peaks and on the porches! Oh sigh!

Damn but things like this, make me mad! That areas don't have enough foresight to save such places, and find a use for them. -sigh-

Excuse me, but things like this do make me mad. Grrrrrrrrrr... Not mad at you! Obviously you see the sadness of this situation, too.

Will there even be any sort of a sale, where contractors can look inside and out and find if there's anything they can buy and resell? Lots and lots of people do want to restore lots and lots of places and will pay good money for authentic bits and pieces.

What a beautiful house that was at one time! I always think of all the lives that have been lived in places like those. So sad that it is being torn down instead of restored...
