How Many Mouths Do You Feed?
I’ve decided we are pretty rich here at Curt’s Goat Farm. I have noticed that the trips to the feed store are getting more frequent. Our man is mighty good to us. I thought it would be a good idea to do a head count.
There are 31 goats here now and all the nannies are expecting again. So in five (5) months the new little babies will be arriving.
There are 75 chickens and guineas that live here. They are always getting in my way!
There are about 18 baby chicks that just came out of the incubator recently and about 18 baby guineas, not counting all the other chickens of all different sizes. These are too little to bother me yet, but they will soon be turned out on the ground and will be trying to share my food.
And these baby guineas will be squawking and flying everywhere in no time. What a racket they make! Our man loves them too!
And then there is this dog. Our man calls her "Missy". She just lays around and sleeps until our man comes up, then she runs and barks and pretends she's been doing all kinds of things. He feeds her really good.
Are you keeping count? There is one dog and two people who live here full time. And this last week I noticed a bag of cat food had been added to the cart at the store. I was told there are now one mother cat and two half grown kittens hiding out in the hay barn.
Best I can count, we are now officially feeding 109 mouths around here!! Yep, we must be rich!!

That is just wonderful. I loved the pictures especially the baby chicks. I have a tender place in my heart for baby chicks well, if the truth be told babies of all kinds. Thanks so much for sharing those. connie from texas
What a fun place, especially for your grandkids and any greats you might have. My grandparents had a farm, and the chickens scared me to death.. but I still loved watching them. We use to have to get their eggs, and to me at 5-8 years old.. that was just gross (being a somewhat city child). When I got older, the animals disappeared, summer by summer, and I didn't really think they were a lot of work, and didn't understand why they were not getting tons of new babies each spring. When I was in my teens, the farm was just for veggies... I really missed those chickens on my summer visits.
Oh, the animals are so much fun. Who needs to go to the zoo, just stay at home. What a hoot!!!
Love the pics.
We feed about 15 mouths on any given day ,plus tons of birds and wildlife.
HAve a Blessed day!

Hey Ann!
With the price of animal feed these days, you must be rich! I no longer have a bunch of domestic animals, just 2 dogs and 5 cats. But I do buy chops for the deer, and cheap hot dogs for the possums, and lots of bird feed for the birds, etc.
Love the goat. What a cute face! Baby guiena's are adorable, too. I used to raise them. And of course, baby chicks are too cute as well. And the man's dog is nice! I love black Lab's. Well, I love all animals! LOL.
Sure enjoyed all the pictures. Can I come live with you? LOL.
Have a great day!

And I thought I had a zoo at my house!!!
109 mouths to feed!!! Somebody has to stay pretty busy. Well, I scrolled on down and that blueberry cobbler caught my eye! I LOVE cobbler and I LOVE blueberries!
Now, you have me curious. . I must hear what you have to say about the "blue feather!" :)
Lord-a-Mercy! I thought things were bad here! Nah uh. I feed just 2 featherless bipeds, 5 felines that officially live here, 2 transients,4 resident squirrels, 1 resident possum, 2 transients, and I can't keep up with the bird population, tho it has slowed down at the feeders. This year's crop is now mostly feeding on their own. That is a big help from the 20 lbs of thistle seed a week in the winter. We don't keep track of the sunflower and mixed seed.
Then there is the cat that eats baby food..... sigh.....
Wish I had one or 2 of your goats!!!!!
I love it!
Thanks for sending. Our children know us pretty well, don't they.
Sounds like you like to tease. That has sure been in my blood!
When I was a girl our pastor told my dad that he couldn't tell when I was teasing and when I was serious. Well, I guess those things are just in our DNA! :)

Now, that's a grocery bill.
Good pics, Ann. But, but, but I'm scared of goats.
I love you and Granddaddy!
I just told my husband the story of the blue feather. He really chuckled. I love to see him laugh!

I'm only feeding three these days - two human and one canine. You certainly have your hands full especially with all your expectant mums:)
Oh Ann, thank heavens...I had lost you and here you are...but I won't lose you again, I've bookmarked you and in a bit I'm adding you to my blog roll...I've missed you...yes, you are rich...and cats in the barn, it must mean hell for the mice...your Missy looks like our Mindy...black labs are wonderful...Mindy is old now, but she's still my man's girl lol
Oh I am so glad to have finally met up with you again...our paths diverged, but we're on the track again!

109 mouths to feed! Wow, you must be POOR by now! ha ha We have four most days.... 9-10 on Sundays! Not too bad! I spend more on pee pads for the dogs than I do on their food.
You seriously must be rich. Perhaps I'll know thing after reading your blog more (which I plan on doing!), but what do you do with all of those goats? Sell them?
I love it! What an exciting blog! Oh how I miss you all :( Whale and I are adding to our "mouths to feed" around here too! Riley comes home today so were up to 3... It'll be quite a while before we are up to par with you two! Haha! LOVE YOU!!!
I hope your hubby found his hay! The hay in the picture on my blog would have belonged to Edison if he were still alive. My son, Jacob, would have helped load all that hay, no matter how hot it was! I don't know who loaded it this year. It was gone when I got home from work the next day.
You do feed a lot of mouths. We feed right many too, but not as many as you do!
Ann,
Feeding 109 mouths is expensive but I'm sure all of the animals bring you much joy. There is only one goat left at the farm where the boys' visit, but they are hoping to add some petting zoo animals for the autistic kids. Not sure how that is going because the farm owner just had surgery, but things are changing.
I enjoyed all the beautiful photos. Your dog is very handsome and if he is anything like Meeko, he is certainly well-fed.
Take care and enjoy your weekend.
Blessings,
Mary
Today 18 mouths went home with another man who supplied the eggs for the incubator. The baby guineas went home with Tom!
Yes, rich in blessings to live on your wonderful goat farm. Just look at all those sweet faces attached to those mouths!
I keep saying that we must be rich too. We've been feeding 7 human mouths for the last several months, along with 2 doggie and 2 kittie mouths. That only makes 11, we have a long way to go to catch up with you!!
Oh how that takes me back! Goats breed like .... goats. And the better they're fed the more kids they have. Never kept guineas, just hens and ducks. And cats. And dogs. And cows. And goats!!! Rich? HAH!!! Not a chance.
Your goats remind me of my trip to Honduras where I visited a village that the Church had given a goat herd. They were so proud of their goats and the goats made a real impact on their lives.
