Back to School in Pitt County

This year in our county schools, all students will be wearing uniforms. They will have three choices of colors for their bottoms. Khakis, Black, or Blue pants, skirts, shorts, or jumpers. Each school will have three colors of shirts. White and the school colors for each school. The shirts must have collars and be tucked in neatly. I think I will go out there one day soon and see how nice everyone looks.

Some of the students are not too happy with the changes. There will be no blue jeans, big sloppy shirts, dragging pants, or near naked tops for the girls. No stressing about what to wear tomorrow. Everyone will be dressed alike. I really hope that everyone will try harder to make our schools better.

Now on a lighter note, I wish everyone would go read Bee's blog about getting ready to go back to school. I thought it was so funny.

Uniforms make it SO much easier, I agree. Thanks for linking to me. I've been awol lately. (shame on me) This time of year, I'm lucky to get in a post. Glad to see you are doing well. ((hugs))

I had a smile at Bee's post. It is harder than ever to be a parent.
We had uniforms, & our kids had them. Our granddaughter & grandson are expected to wear them too. I feel it helps to dispel inequality, as well as encouraging a sense of pride.

The uniforms sound so nice. I can't believe what the kids wear to school sometimes. I'm sure it makes it easier for the teachers and principals not to have to constantly send kids home to change or to have to constantly check to see what they are wearing.

I like school uniforms. Some neighboring schools have them; our district does not. My Grand Daughter goes to a K-8 school and because of dress codes geared toward the older kids, she cannot where sleeveless dresses... and it is also 105 degrees when she starts school.

All I can say is HOW WONDERFUL! They don't realize it yet, but no arguments about "I have nothing to wear", the fashion field is leveled, kids with more will no longer have more...and they will have pride in their school. I wore uniforms most of my school career (catholic schools) and it was a treat to dress up or down on the weekends and vacations...plus, it's much less expensive for school clothes...Good for Pitt County!

Ann,

At one time I didn't think school uniforms were a good idea. I have changed my mind in recent years. I can't believe some of the kids go to school dressed the way they do. Where are the parents?

Take care, my friend. Sorry it's been so long since I've been by for a visit. Be sure to drop by and enter your name in my Harvest Giveaway.

Blessings,
Mary

My daughter wears a uniform at her public elemntary school. It's white on top (any style) and blue jeans or navy on bottom. Collars are optional. This is in a very poor part of town where buying a pack of T-shirts at Wal-Mart might be the best a family could do, but they'd be within the dress code. It's somewhat an equalizer, but the girls still find ways to look cute in tops in all white with different cuts.

I just started teaching at a private school, and I am wearing a uniform much like the one you describe. Us teachers have a little leeway to look cute! ;-)

Uniforms make life easier!!

Ann,

I wish all states/districts would require uniforms in public schools. Back in the 70's when I was in middle and high school, we would have died of horror at the though of having to wear a uniform. But back then, kids were't so *materialized* or fashion prone. In todays world, kids are encouraged to grow up way too quickly (skimpy clothes) and they are judged by their peers according to the designer names on their jeans and shoes. Some charter schools in my area are now requiring uniforms. Kristen, my eldest granddaughter, attended a charter school for a few years, and the uniform dress code worked out real well.

I like the thought of school uniforms, but I'd hate to be on the deciding committee or on the school board if we were trying to bring it about for the 'first' time in an area. The kids would probably hate it, and the parents would go along with them.
Just put on your blue top, and go to school!
