My Ironing Board

Simply Libby is having a give-away today Feb.29 in honor of Leap Year. All you have to do is post a picture of your ironing board on your blog and comment
here.

There is a story behind my ironing board. When we were first married I didn't have an ironing board. We went to visit my husband's Aunt Annie. She knew we'd had a shower and asked if there was anything we didn't get that we needed. My husband said "An ironing board". She immediately said you can have mine and gave it to us. We protested and she said, "No, no, I want to do this. I have found that everytime I give something away, I get something better in return."

My husband's aunt had been in a accident and she was bent over at the waist and walked with a cane. She could not straighten up. This is a really old ironing board .. put together with wooden pegs. It was always too low for me and when I ironed a lot I sat in a high chair. I still have it. I still use it. To me it is a treasure because it belonged to my husband's aunt.

You will notice that the old cover is underneath the "not-as-old" cover. This ironing board stays sitting up behind my dining room dooor. Thank goodness I don't have to iron much any more! LOL

Thanks for sharing your photo and the story . . . I think it's just wonderful when we can enjoy the history of such a simple tool as an ironing board. It will bring a smile to your face each time you have to take on a mundane chore. Thanks for playing.

It's a nice heirloom, but it's too low for me too, and I'm short! My sis in law used to use an old one like that behind her couch, as a sofa table, with all kinds of collectables displayed on hers.

hi ann! that's a heartwarming story behind your ironing board. :D

i have to admit that i hate ironing...with a passion! :D it's a blessing that my husband is "home-officed" so i only have to iron his short/long-sleeved shirts when he has to go on meetings or business trips. ;) otherwise, i simply immediately fold our clothes while they're still fresh and warm from the dryer. ;)

Sweet story.

Oh I'd not picture my ironing board right now. It is in need of a new cover, and has been. It's one of those things we never think of, when out! Eeeeek! lol

I loved seeing your ironing board- I have one just like it! Maybe almost just like it.....

Mine is old, wooden, and short. also a smallish board. I got it from my Mama, who got it from her sister, and who knows where she got it! I have used it for years and years, and have no desire to replace it.

I am hoping maybe one of my grand daughters will want it when I am finished with it.

Ann,

My maternal grandmother had an ironing board that had a wooden frame. She covered hers with a small thin quilt.

I don't own an ironing board anymore - mine went missing near about 4 years ago!
