Mosquito Love

This is the kind of day that mosquitoes love. We've had small thunder showers all day. They are quick showers and the sun pops out as soon as they are done. It seems like we are getting rain about every hour for a few minutes. This is the kind of day I love, but I also know the mosquitoes are loving it too.

At different times during the day, I try to remember to go dump anything I see with water in it. And as soon as I do, the rain comes back. We even had the county mosquito machine come through Sunday night, but all the mist drifted to our neighbors across the road. I don't think any came our way.

It is raining again. I actually accomplished some things today. I have meatloaf in the oven, and squash and onions in the pan, cooking as I type. It is smelling good in here. Even so, I know the mosquitoes are multiplying outside, and I really don't have any LOVE for mosquitoes.

This is a neighbor's dog. Two different neighbor's kinda' claim him, and kinda' deny him. The one neighbor had this dog. The dog played in both neighbor's yards. Then the second neighbor started letting him inside his home at night. Now he has found our yard.

He's a cute dog, but he worries our old dog, wanting to wrestle all the time. They even almost made my husband fall playing around his feet.

Husband wishes he would stay home. He has been known to chase the guineas. And lately he's become a thief. Husband was missing a boot. After looking around outside he finally went to visit the closest neighbor. He found his boot. Now he makes sure he puts them up high outside so the dog cannot reach them.

We can't say too much. We've had puppies that stole things from the neighbors too. Just their nature, I guess!

No, No, not Fall

I didn't have enough summer, yet! It has been too chilly for me the past two days. So today, my husband and our neighbor replaced the propane tank back on the blocks, and tonight we have heat in the house. It feels so comfortable in here.

The yellow mum was one I found that I had sitting in a pot up under some bushes since last fall. How it survived I will never know. But here it is looking all pretty and reminding me of fall.

The weather people have promised that we will get some of our summer back in the middle of next week. Until then, we'll just deal with these windy, gray, cloudy, chilly days.

Day is Done

This scene was earlier this week. Today is almost done. I've waited by the phone for a call back, that did not come. Maybe tomorrow. Simple requests just don't get done.

Yesterday was good. My niece, Susan, had a beautiful baby girl. Facebook pictures went up soon after she was born. I love facebook !!

Took mom back to the dermatologist yesterday. We thought he was only going to check the place on her face that he had removed a cancer about six months ago. He decided she'd get a whole body check yesterday and he found four or five suspicious places that he froze. Then he said he'd see her again in six months.

The boys were here today to redo the roof damage that the tree had done. We only had to buy one bundle of shingles and one board. We had plywood on hand that they were able to use. That's the main worry fixed. I think the gutter man is coming on Saturday to give us an estimate.

The tree has been cut off the shelter that the truck and tractor were under. We have to order another shelter and decide where we are going to put it. Want to get away from all the trees over there where the old one was.

Still have lots of debris to get up along the edges of the lane. Suppose to be cooler weather starting tomorrow, so maybe we can tackle that. Our biggest aggravation right now, is the mosquitoes. They are just terrible. Irene could have left them somewhere else. We had a dry summer for the most part, and had forgotten how annoying they could be.

Hope your day was good!

The dogwood tree leaves are changing. Time marches on. We visited my husband's sister today. She showed us that she can walk by holding on to the rails along the walls of the nursing home. We continue to see improvement and hope for the day when she will be able to go home. She still cannot move her right hand/arm without using her other arm, but she is faithfully doing the exercises to improve this function also.

Still doesn't speak, except things that come out without thought. Like she will say "I don't know" so clearly every now and again. She gets frustrated when she cannot make us understand what she is trying to say. On good days, she'll just laugh and shake her head when we don't get what she's trying to say.

My husband's birthday is three days after her birthday. Her daughter called us and SIL sang Happy Birthday to him without missing a beat. She can sing hymns and other songs that she's known forever... sometimes by herself, but often sings along with others.

We are still praying that she will get well enough to go home again to stay. Her family takes her home to her house for get togethers. They have a wheelchair ramp and have taken some doors down to make enough room for her wheelchair. They continue to add safety bars and other improvements, looking forward to the day they can take her home to stay.

This picture was taken recently. Some of her family took her home on this day and she got to play with her latest great-grandchild. Please pray with us that this day will soon be an everyday experience for her.

A Big Thank You!!

How many times do you get a call from a grandson-in-law who says he wants something to do? Then he volunteers to bring his chain saw and get up more trash.

Who worked all afternoon cleaning up the rest of the pine tree while fighting enormous mosquitoes?

That's my grandson-in-law, Kenny, who did all this work for us. And I am so grateful for the good job he did. Thank You Kenny !

We've had many volunteers that have helped us so much. Kenny came the farthest distance.

Labor Day

Still cleaning up. Perfect for Labor Day.

Notice the smoke beyond the shurbery. My nose has about had it. The burn pile did get a rest yesterday, but today it has steadily been refueled.

We even had some brief showers of rain today. The mosquitoes are horrible.

Still, I am so thankful that we didn't get any more damage than we did. The phones are working again, and the insurance adjuster came out this morning. Life is Good!!

Clean Up

With a lot of help from our friends, family, and neighbors, we're getting there.

Most of the front yard is clean and the angel is back in the birdbath and you can see the path again. The back yard is proving to be difficult. Lots of chain sawing going on. Hundreds and hundreds (or so it seems) of pinecones to pick up. We've had a burning pile going for about five days and my nose is protesting big-time. Never-the-less it must be done.
