Yucca Yucca

What is it with Yucca? Mine don't bloom every year. The two oldest pieces are blooming. I was hoping for some blooms on the others.

For a long time I didn't know what this plant was called. My MIL who gave it to me called it "bear grass". Someone on Garden Junk told me the real name. Said it was the state flower of New Mexico. So I had my husband move a large rock over to this corner and I got some paint and painted "Yucca, State Flower Of New Mexico"on it. One year later it had all washed off.

Since then a red cedar has come up in front of my rock and completely hides it now. I let the cedar stay and have been decorating it with Christmas lights. After this Christmas it will have to be cut out of there. The tree is getting too big and my corner needs thinning out.

A Few Things At My Place

Thought I'd give you a quick glimpse of a couple of things in my yard today. The Gladiola was given to me many years ago. It had been lost up under some Azaleas. Last year when we cut those back I found these and moved them out into an opening and this is my reward. Thanks to Mrs. Maybelle Cannon for her gift long,long ago!

These yellow lilies were given to me by my cousin. Aren't they pretty? My Aunt Jessie loved old flowers. She told me years ago I should plant lilies in between all my Azeleas. When the Lillies bloom I always think of her. Thanks Shirley for dividing with me!!

This is a chair given to me by one of my daughter's in law. I took the bottom out and planted it. For about three years, this chair has had different flowers each summer. Thanks Wendy!!

A Few Weeks Ago

It seemed as if my Iris bloomed later than others in my neighborhood. We have lots of shade. They were pretty while they lasted and helped to make my ancient fence look a little better.

Family Treasures

Do you have family treasures? A lot of mine are flowers from the gardens of others. These peonies were my MIL's. After her death in 1989, my SIL dug up the plants that were beside the front steps, divided them into six pieces and gave one to each of the living siblings. We planted ours near the front porch and each year around Mother's day we are reminded of my husband's mother.

I have many treasures. Irises and Snake plant from my grandmother. Hosta, Irises, and Clematis from my uncle, others from my aunts, children, and friends.

In my younger days, at my grandmother's house, I remember that all female visitors made their way around the yard, looking at all her flowers. Many left with pieces of this and that. And when grandmother came home from visiting, she often brought cuttings from her friends and families gardens.

As I make my rounds around my own yard, I am reminded of those generous people. ~Later
