Somerset Place: The Collins Family House

Somerset was closed on Sunday, so there was no one there to give us the tour. Except the house cat. She kindly showed us around.
The Gardens were beautiful.
We saw a slave house. Once there were twenty of these on the property.
They had their own hospital on the place.
This grand plantation is located on Lake Phelps which you can see in the background.
And in case you were wondering what the man in the post below saw when he was peeking in the window, I took a picture through the window.

If you would like to know more about Somerset Place they have a websiteHERE.

The Help

I got the book "The Help" for my birthday. Once I got started reading, I wanted to read it straight through.

Most of my family saw the movie recently.

Now that I've read the book, I would like to see the movie. The movie is never as good as the book, in my opinion. I guess I like my imagination better than the movie director's interpretation.

The book is about black maids and their white employers in the south during the 1960's. Most of the stories are told by the black maids. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks Penny!

The Last Of Summer

Officially for me... Summer is over.

My birthday trip back to the Outer Banks. Couldn't go south. So we just hung around Nags Head, Kitty Hawk and Jockey's Ridge. Hurricane Damage is still everywhere. I heard someone say they might get HWY 12 open by the end of next week.
