We rode over to the next town north of us tonight. We saw many gas stations with bags on the hoses. (this means out of gas) We also saw some stations with yellow tape around all their gas pumps.
On the noon news today, there was a story of another gas station owner in a town some miles from us. He said he was refusing to refill his tanks until the gas comes down. The people selling the gas to him to resell were wanting over $4 a gallon. He was saying he would not pay it. So all his tanks are empty.
So far the couple of gas stations we buy from still have gas. It is selling for $3.89 a gallon.
I was just wondering if any of you are seeing this going on in your neighborhood?

I believe the correct term is 'price gouging' but I'm more than happy to be corrected.
Best wishes
Here in Australia, it is called price gouging, when they up the prices by 40 cents, just as the weekend comes along. One barefaced liar tried to tell us that he was selling under cost, earlier in the week! As if!
We currently pay AU$1.40 -1.60 a litre.
A lot of people are enraged, because Australia has oil of it's own.
We were warned by a neighbor who is a manager of a station in North Carolina that gas would be 5 bucks a gallon and limited to 10 gallons 2 DAYS BEFORE IKE HIT. So, yeah, I'm thinking gouging...I just thank God that we are retired and don't really have anywhere we have to be...I'm getting a wee bit tired of being jerked around by energy problems!

Ann,
Gas has taken a dramatic drop here in southern Ontario since Ike went through. Hubby bought gas today for $28. The same amount last week was $40. And yes, it was price gouging. Our Prime Minister admitted that but said he didn't plan on doing anything about it. It is all political and now the stock market is not doing well. I believe hard times are coming and many people will not know what to do. I hope I'm wrong.
Take care, my friend.
Blessings,
Mary
My hubby owns a gas and service station and we have been out for 2 wks. Gas right now around here in town is like 3.69. Hubby's supplier is out is the only reason he hasn't gotten any yet.
Gosh it is getting quite scary isn't it. So glad I have a little car and work is a minute or two away!!!
Gas is what we cook with on the BBQ and what we put in the car we call petrol.
Hey Ann,
Last week gas was $3.89, in my area, but today it's $3.49, and there is no problem getting the car filled. Of course, this is Friday, and you posted this Wednesday. But besides the gas being down for a change, there is plenty of other stuff on the news to be worried about.
So, where is your Follow this Blog thingie? I came to see if you had it up, and you don't. I just put mine up, but I still can't figure out how people became my followers even before I put the thingie up. I saw Ancient One on my list. How did you do it? No one is explaining it to me clearly. I can't follow your blog, if I don't know how, but I sure would like to follow it. :-)

It's gotten a little higher here is Houston because of Ike. I just hope it comes down soon, especially with no power, we are using a lot in the generator and crossing town for food and medicines for my FIL.
Here in my area of Maryland, a lot of stations were out of regular gas on Sunday and out of all gas on Monday. Supplies seemed to return by Wednesday, but prices were up 30-40 cents. I post the last price I paid in the sidebar of my blog.
Ann,
Yesterday, the only gas available in my area is premium at $4.28 at gallon.
I saw lots of gas stations without gas before and after Hurricane Ike hit us here in Texas
