Collards

Do you love collard greens?

We like them cooked with ham hocks.

We like them with baked sweet potatoes.

And freshly cooked hush puppies.

The baby called the cornbread "hush doggies."

Sometimes we cook white Irish potatoes in the pot with the collards.

I expect if the goats could get across the fence we would have no collards.

Our small town puts on a Collard Festival every September.

We have collard cooking contest.

We also have collard eating contest.

WE LIKE COLLARDS!!

Do YOU?

You know, I don't know if I do, I haven't tried any since I was young and didn't. I love broccoli and cabbage, so I just might, now. Collards were a huge thing in my family when I was growing up. When my Aunt was in the hospital a few months ago and didn't feel like eating, I took her some collards and cornbread. That was the first thing she actually ate!

I love collards! Especially cooked with ham hock (or ham bone or side meat) and then drizzled with a little vinegar. My Momma likes the "pot liquor" - the cooking water from the collards. My Granny got her hooked on it. Apparently it's good with cornbread or hushpuppies.

I have tried and tried to develop a taste for collards or the ES favorite, turnip greens, but I just can't do it. Then I don't like ham either. Go figure!
The wood piles look like my side yard except for the house in the distance.
And, Nicholas Spark. I read one book, cried myself sick, and swore off reading anything that sad again. Give me a comedy, make me laugh.
Good to catch up with you!

I don't believe I've ever eaten collards but I do love cabbage and think collards are a lot like cabbage aren't they?

Yes I like collards and now I want some!!! What torture for the goats, to be that close, and not be able to get there! LOL

I love collards! I cooked a huge pot on New Year's Day along with some black eyed peas for good luck.
