He must have had guts to climb that pole, not once but twice...Good story here. It seems that many Confederate soldiers died of infection and gangrene - there was very little medication, even for pain.
Later today or tomorrow I will have my pics ready to post on The Battle of New Hope Church, aka Hell Hole. Hell Hole is about 15 minutes from my house - I took the pics last week but somehow missed a marker - had to go back.
I read your story of Pvt. Bland, very interesting. Most men did not want to take part in this war and some felt a loyalty to fight. Your pictures are very nice, that is a nice big marker in his honor.
