Ann, interesting how the bees make these. We had a hornet's nest in the eaves of the house last summer. I sprayed it with W-D40 and scared the heck out of my hubby. It does stop the bees from flying, as the oil on their wings make them heavy.

My husband found a great big nest like this last fall. It was under a rose bush that I didn't get cut back last year.
I took it to ceramics class, soaked it in water, then soaked it in porcelain slip. Let it dry, let it dry, then fired it to bisque. Dip in clear glaze, and fired again. It is a lovely ceramic nest now.
I did the same thing with a bird's nest we found abandoned.
