A small park on a corner in a town north of us.
When I saw it, I couldn't help but remember a post
Sandi wrote recently on her blogspot. If you are interested you can find it here.
We have a small garden planted behing fencing to keep the chickens and othe animals out. We've had to water it alot since we've had very little rain.
I love cucumbers. We always have them grow up beside the fence. Makes for easier picking. Salad anyone?
How Many Mouths Do You Feed?
I’ve decided we are pretty rich here at Curt’s Goat Farm. I have noticed that the trips to the feed store are getting more frequent. Our man is mighty good to us. I thought it would be a good idea to do a head count.
There are 31 goats here now and all the nannies are expecting again. So in five (5) months the new little babies will be arriving.
There are 75 chickens and guineas that live here. They are always getting in my way!
There are about 18 baby chicks that just came out of the incubator recently and about 18 baby guineas, not counting all the other chickens of all different sizes. These are too little to bother me yet, but they will soon be turned out on the ground and will be trying to share my food.
And these baby guineas will be squawking and flying everywhere in no time. What a racket they make! Our man loves them too!
And then there is this dog. Our man calls her "Missy". She just lays around and sleeps until our man comes up, then she runs and barks and pretends she's been doing all kinds of things. He feeds her really good.
Are you keeping count? There is one dog and two people who live here full time. And this last week I noticed a bag of cat food had been added to the cart at the store. I was told there are now one mother cat and two half grown kittens hiding out in the hay barn.
Best I can count, we are now officially feeding 109 mouths around here!! Yep, we must be rich!!
I picked blueberries yesterday off the best blueberry bush. (The dry weather has ruined one bush.) I got enough for a cobbler which I made today.
If my aunt Jessie were here she'd want vanilla ice cream with hers. I like mine plain. Yum!
Shell Pea Vine
Well, isn't this pretty? Janie from Texas sent me a new vine to try. She called it a shell pea vine. I think it is pretty!!
It is just leaving its pot and starting the long climb up the pole that my outside night light is on. Wonder how tall it will get?
This was a good weekend. Saturday we attended a surprise party for my granddaughter's boyfriend, Matt. His family threw him a welcome back party. He had been in Oklahoma and Missouri for basic training. He is in the Army Reserves. (forgot to take the camera.)
Then in today's paper was the announcement for my other granddaughter's engagement. She will be married in September.
Congratulaions Holly and Kenny !!
You will have to click on the picture to be able to see the little birds in this bird house.
I had seen baby birds on
Penny's blogspot. I also saw some on Vanessa's blogspot. I found these little ones in the yellow and green birdhouse on the grapevine pole on Saturday. I'm sure there are more around here, I just haven't found them yet!
I was just over at Donna's blog and she has a funny story about her Butter Tarts.
In the same manner, I received an email that taught me something this week. I learn something new just about every day.
This is the email:
Some of you probably already know about this little gem, but for those who don't....enjoy less hassel from now on...
Fwd: Reynolds foil box
Look on the ends of all your foil, etc., wrap boxes and you will find a tab that keeps your foil in the box. I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The roll always comes out at the wrong time.
Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end."
Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one, too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jumped out when I was trying to cover something up.
I'm sharing this with my friends that did not know this. I hope I'm not the only person that didn't know about this.
Nope the person that sent the email is not the only one. *blush*
You may have heard of the wildfires burning in eastern NC. They started in Hyde County. The wind kept the smoke blowing out toward the outer banks since the fires started. Today, the wind is blowing in our direction. We can smell the arid smell of burning woodland.
At least the temperature has dropped. Right now we are at a cool 95 degrees! This clock sits on top of my computer desk. My son gave it to my husband last year at Christmas. Can you believe how hot it is?
My husband keeps our air set on 80 for the summer. (unless I sneak in and bump it back a little) Even the air conditioner is having a time keeping the temp correct today. Eighty feels mighty good when the out side temps are 102.
I was out side putting a tomato basket around this plant my second son's family gave me for Mother's day. I spied something in one of the flowers.
I went inside to get the camera, came back outside and found I needed batteries. Went back inside to reload the batteries in the camera. Came back out and took two picutes of the butterfly in the flower. (both blurred, by the way) I finally wondered if the butterfly was dead since he was paying me no mind. Finally I tugged it's wings very gently, and he flew way up into the crepe myrtle tree. That must be some good nectar in that flower.
Time is moving on!
Today, my youngest grandchild, came over to show me his driver's license and took me for a ride around the block on his truck. He just got the license this morning! He's a very good driver and I wouldn't be afraid to go anywhere with him.
My eldest grandson is home from his honeymoon. My newest granddaughter-in-law has posted a wedding photo on her blog.
My youngest granddaughter got married in December of 2007. My eldest granddaughter is getting married in September of this year. My middle granddaughter is making plans.
Time is moving on!
