Daughters of the American Revolution

This is the home of the Major Benjamin May Chapter of the DAR. In 1930 Mr. and Mrs. AC Monk donated a lot for the erection of a Chapter House on land originally owned by Major Benjamin May.

Completed in 1938, it was the first Chapter House built in North Carolina.  This building was never actually a home.  Used more for meetings and gatherings. It does have a full kitchen with modern appliances (only the old sink was saved as was the working dumb waiter).  This building can now be used for weddings, family reunions, and other events as well as for the DAR functions.

My SIL is a member of the DAR and she was the one who showed our group through the building and explained what the DAR does for education, patriotism and education.   I did not take any inside pictures of our tours.  I did enjoy both tours.  If you are ever in Farmville, they have many, many, old homes.  This weekend the town is having it's Dogwood Festival.  Perfect time to enjoy this wonderful town.

Tour on Thursday

I was invited along to tour a couple of places with a group from my hometown.  This is the May Museum and Park in Farmville N.C.

It is always fun to get inside to see how these old homes look.  Interesting period furniture and interesting bits of history given by the tour guides.

The landscaping almost completely hides the old kitchen that always is detached from the old house.

We had fun and I'd be excited to get invited again when they tour old houses.

Look What My Sister Brought To Me

We've been in the process of clearing out some of my mother's things.  While my sister was at the dump, she called to tell me that someone had set off a birdbath and asked if I wanted it.  I said YES.  She said, now it really looks rough, are you sure? and I said YES again. So they delivered it right to my house. This makes me five.  She even brought the two birds that sit on the bath part.  I know where I want it to go.  Just got to get it over to the other side of the yard and set up. Sister (and BIL) are so good to me.

Do You Like My Bird?

I got it toward the end of the summer last year at a yard sale.  I've seen them on eBay in pairs.  I only have one.  I have it placed between the pot and the small flag holder to keep it from blowing over.
