Twenty one years ago we met for the first time. I had heard about you, and felt that I knew you already. I knew your parents and your brother, your cousins and your other grandparents.

Who knew you would grow up to work at "Wet-n-Wild" water park?

I knew I would love you AND I DO!!

Happy Birthday April!!

Fish

Deborah asked how the Cherokee cooked fish. I found these recipes in the Cooklore Cook book.

Barbecued Fish:

Cut fish into strips of chunks, string on pieces of sharpened sticks and hang over or before a fire. Turn often and keep before the fire until the fish does not drip any more. Hang up for later by stringing on thongs, bear grass, etc. Use by making stew or soup.

Fish and Mush:

Barbecue fish by cooking it on a stick, after being cut into small chunks, boil in water to make a thick soup. Make mush by cooking cornmeal with a little lye or soda and water. Eat the mush with the fish soup. This dish was always used for sick people when they had fish.

Fish Soup:

Clean and bake fish very brown. Put into pot of water and cook until done. Serve this soup with mush.

Fish:

Salt cleaned fish and let stand overnight. String the salted fish on a stick the next morning and hang before the fire, turning them often to get them roasted just right. If a person was lucky enough to have a frying pan and some grease he could cook the fish quicker but they wouldn’t taste very good.
Enjoy! Now I will not be telling any more of these delicious recipes. Can’t give away all my secrets,Deborah LOL

Go to visit Deborah today, if you can. She has an excellent article up on how to be a good wife. LOL

Life And Death

The girl was excited. She knew she should be sad, but she wasn’t. The family was going to attend a funeral for a family member on her dad’s side. She could not remember going to many funerals. (Actually, only one). Her uncle had died very young, when she was probably four years old. All she could remember of that funeral was an aunt holding her up to the casket to get her last look at uncle.

There was a reason the girl was happy and excited. She had been invited to go home with her favorite cousin after the funeral. She would be staying a week. She and her sister, both, were going to cousin’s home.

When the family arrived, they filed into a pew on the right side of the church.
Daddy and Mama were seated by people they knew and everyone was talking in whispers. The girl had been warned not to talk in church. So she, her sister, and cousin sat quietly.

The church filled quickly. It soon became apparent there were not enough seats for the people coming in. Daddy asked the girl, her sister, and cousin to stand up and let someone older have those seats. This they did, and were sent to the small vestibule to stand until the funeral was over.

The girl was being very quite. The vestibule was filling up. Many people were standing just inside the church, so they could hear all the preacher was saying.

Then it happened. The girl dropped her purse. The thought went through her mind, “It would have to be me to drop something and make a noise.” She started to bend down to pick up her purse and bumped the cousin. The cousin bumped her back. Then everything went black.

When the girl awoke, she found herself in the hearse. Many men were looking at her and fanning her with their hats. The girl had fainted. Daddy was in the hearse with her. The girl got up and wondered what had happened. They told her she had passed out.

Finally the funeral was over, the person had been buried, and the visiting was going on. The girl found her folks and asked if she should get her clothes and move them to her aunt’s car. Daddy said the sister could go, but he didn’t think the girl should. The girl was very upset. She wanted to go with the others. She almost started to cry. Then Aunt spoke up. She convinced Daddy to let her go. She promised that if there was any other sign that the girl was not well, she would take her home immediately. Finally Daddy agreed.

The girl stayed the whole week with her cousin. What fun the girl had. She never knew what made her faint that day and she has never fainted since. ~True Story!

Blood Pudding, Anyone?

I bought this book when I visited my daughter in Bryson City, N.C.

I bought it for the recipes in the back. Not that I would ever try many of them. Most tell how to prepare wild animals, fish, and frogs for eating. The most disgusting recipe of all to me is: "Blood Pudding."

Directions follow:

When butchering an animal have a bucket handy with salt in the bottom to catch the blood as soon as the animal is stuck. Stir the blood to keep it from clotting. When the pouch is removed, clean it well, add a little fat to the blood as it is put into the pouch, add black pepper. Sew up the opening of the pouch, put it into a pot of water and boil until done. Set aside to cool before slicing to serve.

I wonder if the Cherokee still cook blood pudding?

We all have favorites among our blogging friends, right? One of the funniest bloggers I know is Emma Sometimes. She is funny in a sarcastic way. I like her sense of humor.

I was visiting her blog and reading some back posts and other things. She says there is this website that has awards that you might want to send to your friends. I checked out the site and sent myself an award. You can find it in the list with my other awards. Don't be shocked. Just laugh!!

My mailman actually brought it to my back door and rang the door bell for me to receive it. (We have a really nice mail man!!!) I was so happy to receive the books and chocolates!
Thanks Cheryl! I hope you are completely well of your flu. It certainly isn't fun being sick.

What is It?

On a corner of a town 15 miles from me, I found this scupture.

I don't know what it is. I must ask my cousin, who lives near there, what this is.

Happiness Is......

Jesie, asked me to take part in this Happiness Project. So I did! ..LOL

Questions:
1. How do you define happiness? Happiness is an expression of things that happen to you that make you glad. And things that happen to you that are not good, cause unhappiness. I prefer the state of JOY over happiness any day. JOY is the feeling of peace and security that can only come through the Lord Jesus Christ.

2. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your happiness now, versus when you were a child? About the same. However, if you want to know about my JOY, then now it is way over ten. I didn’t know the Lord Jesus Christ when I was a child.

3. What do you do on a daily basis that brings you happiness? (and how consistent is the feeling of happiness throughout your day) Again Happiness depends on the happenings of my day. If all the news is good, I’m happy. If things go pretty much my way, I’m happy. But JOY is there even through the most trying times. No matter what happens, I know the Lord Jesus Christ. I know HE will comfort me, satisfy all my needs, never leave me. I can trust HIM through everything.

4. What things take away from your happiness? Hearing that someone is sick or hurting in some way and there’s nothing I can do about it. Even then I can have JOY knowing that Jesus knows all about it and will work things out according to his GOOD WILL!

What can be done to lessen their impact or remove them from your life? Just trust my Lord Jesus Christ. HE knows all things and HE is able to carry me through!

What do you plan on doing in the future that will bring you even more happiness?
Trust Jesus more!
